Simon's Town Afternoon Shark Cage Diving (optional transfer)

SHARK DIVE
  • About 4 hours

Description

The adventure begins in Simon’s Town, just 1 hour from Cape Town. A 25 minute boat ride will take you to Seal Island False Bay for your ultimate shark cage diving experience. The time of year will determine the species of shark you will experience on your dive with us. Though the area is associated primarily with Great Whites (in season), we are privileged to have the very inter-active, Sevengill Broadnose Cow Sharks and Blue and Mako Sharks.

The cage floats just under the surface of the water, and it is situated alongside the boat. We are the only one to offer scuba diving on all our trips. The crew is highly trained and safety is of utmost importance for your shark cage diving trip.

You will be astonished to see how the sharks can just appear and disappear in the underwater gloom. It’s amazing how such a large animal can be so stealthy! And the best part is, we use SCUBA, so you won’t have to come up for air right when they make a turn directly in front of the cage!

For the afternoon shark cage diving, we chose to only take small groups on our boat, Blue Pointer, so you can enjoy a comfortable trip in a more personal and exclusive environment.

No Scuba qualifications are necessary! The cage floats just under the surface of the water, and it is situated alongside the boat. Only 5 enter the cage at a time, all scuba equipment stays on board and only the air-hose enters the cage, allowing you to enjoy a great dive without cumbersome, heavy tanks and gear.

The average dive time is 20 minutes depending on the shark activity. Once everyone has had a go, and if there is enough time, then a second dive is allowed. Our crew is highly trained and safety is of utmost importance.

During our afternoon shark cage diving trip you will be able to see the Sharks from a point-blank range and the best part is that this trip revolves around shark cage diving.

Please Note: We have a very high success rate, but we are working with wild animals. Please be aware of this, so you do not arrive with unrealistic expectations. Shark sightings and activity are never guaranteed and even during peak season there may be days when the sightings are lower than expected. No refunds will be made for non-sightings.

Itinerary

The shark species we hope to encounter may be Great White Sharks, Broadnose Sevengill Cow Sharks.

Our afternoon trip is a viewing and shark cage diving trip. The two areas we operate are Seal Island and Cape Point. The area location of the trips will be determined the day before, after determining the weather, shark activity and which shark species we are more likely to encounter.

11.40 meet at African Shark Eco-Charters Shop. We are situated next to the post office in Simon’s Town Quayside Centre, Wharf Road, Simon’s Town.

You will be taken to the Blue Pointer boat by one of our guides, who will welcome you aboard and a full safety briefing is given as well as the expected weather forecast for the day. An overview is given as to what the trip entails, the do’s and dont’s and what is to be expected. Depart for Seal Island, about 30 minutes away.

Seal Island: Arrive at Seal Island. We do an inspection lap of the island giving information on the animal and bird life that is found on Seal Island. Choosing the best spot to anchor up with regard to wind and swell direction.

The cage is lowered into the water. A bait line and carpet seal decoy are put in the water. We do not feed sharks, nor touch sharks. We are NOT an adrenalin outfit. Then it’s time to get up close and personal with the sharks. The average dive time per guest is about 20 minutes. Of course we will not force anyone to go in the cage, but would encourage it. One of our several on board guides will interact with the guests during the course of the trip to supply information and answer any questions they may have. We have a cooler box, with muffins, fruit and snacks and drinks.

Around 16h00 we start to head home to Simonstown. This may be earlier depending on shark and weather conditions.

I was recommended this place by the Youtube influencers Kara and Nate. I couldn't have asked for a better recommendation. They are the only shark cage company in Simon's Town and one of the few eco-charters in Cape Town. They run an incredibly ethical business and have amazing service. I had the most incredible time and was able to see many great white sharks both breaching and also in the cage. I went a few years ago back when there were great white in the bay. Since then I have heard they have been pushed out by orcas. However, if there are different sharks to see then this is the company to go with. I can't recommend them enough. I had a once-in-a-lifetime experience with them and the excellent service made it the perfect memory.

Also I should have led with this but they give you a scuba regulatory in the cage. I did a lot of research before and they are the only company I could find that did that. It made the experience so so so much better. I can't emphasize enough the difference in experience you will have with a regulator instead of a snorkel.

RUN AWAY
We booked for a trip that we never did and they charged 100% of our credit card for no reason.
Distrust Karen who is the most deviant person of the group : she has never proposed anyhing else and it is impossible to discuss with her .
she only charges yoor credit card and that's all ... To avoid absolutely that company

You book a white shark diving experience and they, afterwards, warn you there are no great whites in the area they work. Fake advertising. They'll also let you know the day before, at night, that their Go-Pro camera, along with other gear isn't working. "Ooooopsies, sorry, if you were expecting to have memories from the experience, it won't happen". Of course they won't offer a discount for this.

They'd also change the date and time at their convenience, and if you make the mistake of saying "ok" or "I'll think about it", they won't refund you any money.

Karen (honoring her name) is the rudest person I've come across. And of course I'm still waiting for any refund or compensation, or at least an apology. Nothing.

Worst option possible, hire others.
